Every patient referred to HBOT Clinics is assessed by one of our physicians. This process is a review of the referring physician's diagnosis and reason for referral. This assessment will also establish the appropriateness of hyperbaric oxygen therapy for the patient's medical condition and any contra-indications to therapy. Primary areas assessed for any contra-indications include: ears, eyes, lungs, seizure, active cancer and prescribed drugs. This will determine the patient's susceptibility to complications from pressure changes or oxygen toxicity.
The assessment allows the patient to familiarize him or her self with the chambers and the treatment procedures. During this time, the doctor will discuss with the patient the possible complications and risks of thearpy, walk through the consent form, and answer any questions that the patient may have.
