Our patient assessment procedure is conducted by one of the hyperbaric physicians. This process is a review of the referring physician's diagnosis to establish the appropriateness of hyperbaric therapy to the patient's ailment. The primary areas of review that may indicate contra-indications to therapy are ears, eyes, lungs, seizure, active cancer and prescribed drugs. This will determine the patient's susceptibility to chamber pressure or oxygen toxicity. The procedure also allows the patient to familiarize him or her self with the chambers and the course of treatment.

The discussion will also involve a review of the complications, risks and signing the consent form.
Here is how Alberta Health Care Coverage Works for HBOT Treatment

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is fully covered by Alberta Health Care. HBOT Clinics provides treatment to patients referred by their physicians. You may ask your doctor whether HBOT should be part of your treatment plan. Upon referral, patients are given a physical assessment for contra-indications to hyperbaric therapy.

For wound care patients a further diagnostic test is required, known as a TCOM, this test measures the oxygen absorption rate of local tissue surrounding the wound site. An application for funding is then made to the relevant regional health region to cover the cost of therapy. Therapies will commence shortly thereafter.
